he 2013 Optu (73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and the rest 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot) is a rich, plum, chocolaty and lavender scented 2013 that has way more fruit and texture than most in the vintage. Showing more classic Red Mountain graphite and minerality with time in the glass, this full-scale, pedal to the metal effort has a big mid-palate, no hard edges and can be drunk today or cellared for a decade. Optu Red Mountain is a composition of our favorite vineyard and varietals in each growing season. The 2013 vintage is predominately Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings forth aromas of bing cherry and raspberry. The palate offers concentrated blackberry, plum, violets and a slight minerality, all balanced with full, chewy tannins and a lengthy finish. This cellar star will easily age through 2025.

Wine SpectatorBroad, bright and refreshing, showing pure plum, blackberry and currant aromas and flavors, riding into a long and expressive finish. The peppery tannins are nicely integrated. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2017 through 2023. 735 cases made.

Wine EnthusiastMostly Cabernet Sauvignon (74%) with the balance Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this wine starts out brooding, with aromas of coffee, spice, vanilla, plum, dark fruit and high-toned herbs. The cherry and barrel spice flavors coat the palate, backed by firm tannins that need time to soften.
